This bloom looks like a still life but is actually one of many living flowers on the grounds of the Kona Hawaii Temple.
One evening, my friend and I were headed up to the front doors of theTemple when something caught my attention out of the corner of my eye. I instantly said "Wait! Look over here!" I was so mesmerized by the sheer perfect beauty of this single bloom that a camera didn't even enter my mind (and that's saying something). Then my friend (not a photographer) took out her phone and began taking pictures. I thought "hey, wait a minute! I'm the photographer and she got her phone out first?" Embarrassed, I quickly whipped out my phone and began snapping away.. My wonderful friend agreed to return with me the next day at the same time and hold the black back-drop in place to isolate this perfect specimen from the other pretty, but not as perfect, red ginger flowers. What a lovely gift this single, flawless, blossom is. I am grateful to have received such a gift and grateful I can share it with you.
We were able to capture several beautiful orchids that same evening isolating them the same way in the same golden hour light. Mahalo to my friend, Sandy.
