THE "BIRD IN PARADISE"
My approach to photography is like my approach to life . . . I live in gratitude and my photography is an expression of that. I find the more gratitude in my heart, the more inspiration is received. On the ground, in the air, or under the sea, my desire and intent is to gather light, both visible and spiritual, to invite, uplift, and inspire all who will see. I don't use a drone or flash as I prefer to be physically behind the camera with natural light. I love sharing what I see and how I see it. I love traveling and capturing those moments wherever I am. I love finding the beauty in all things and seeing the Creator through His creations.
I have always been attracted to the arts. Early in childhood I was active in dance and the visual arts. Always making some sort of art piece to hang in my room or share with others. In the 70's I got creative with hair then went on as a dancer/dance instructor (Modern, Ballet, Jazz and some Tap). In the 80's & 90's I dabbled in photography then went on to learn a wide variety of business aspects through various jobs & entrepreneurial pursuits. Teaching myself computer art programs, I soon moved up at a large business forms company to become their art trainer which allowed me to transition to my own company of design and printing. My eye for beauty & art seems to come naturally, as a gift, and is still serving me well as a fine art photographer, designer & artist.
My photography work has been seen around the world - TV, books, magazines, ad campaigns, etc. Most of my time is spent with my husband at our home where my heart is filled with the spirit of aloha and where I feel at peace, surrounded by the tropical beauty known as Hawaii. My work of Hawaii is on display at the Blue Sea Artisans Gallery in the Keauhou Shopping Center in Kona, Hawaii. Feel free to stop by for a personal tour. I am in the gallery most Thursday afternoons 2:30-6pm. Gallery phone (808) 329-8000.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
Most of my inspiration comes from, but is not limited to, nature. Even when I'm least expecting it, I'll be drawn to something out the corner of my eye, and when I fully look, it takes my breath away and I have to capture it to share. I love movement, texture, color, and the way they play with the light. I'm attracted to landscapes that draw me in, thus drawing the viewer into the captured image.
My intent is to capture what brings me joy, wonder and peace, and to share that with anyone who might want or enjoy those same things. My hope is that through my images, people will be able to experience the same things I did when I witnessed the scene in person. I like beckoning you into a beautiful landscape or inviting you to look at something from a different perspective or in a new light.
Since my motivation is to share my encounter with you, I want to physically experience the image myself. All of my aerials are taken with me behind the camera, whether it be in a plane, hang glider or helicopter. No drones for me! My underwater images are taken while snorkeling along the shorelines of tropical waters.
